Start from interfaces, loads and space
A part is defined by what it connects to and what it has to withstand. Before geometry, we work through the mating components, the fasteners and clearances, the loads and movement, the environment, and the space the part has to fit inside. A described function plus two reference dimensions is often a more useful starting point than a detailed model built on an assumption that turns out to be wrong.
Existing hardware helps. Photographs of the assembly, a sample part, or the drawing of the component yours has to mate with all remove guesswork. Say which dimensions you have measured and which are estimates, so the estimated ones can be confirmed rather than quietly inherited into the design.

What you receive, and what is quoted separately
The design deliverable is a file package, not a sketch: a STEP model and a PDF engineering drawing, with DXF added when a part is cut in two dimensions, and two revision rounds inside the agreed brief. New functions or a changed brief are quoted separately, and editable native files are listed in the quotation when you need them. The full wording is in the design file package section on this page. Keep ownership clear from the start. Your supplied files remain yours, and rights to new designs are specified in the quotation. If the project involves restricted drawings, raise confidentiality and NDA before sharing anything.
Design for manufacturing decisions that change the part
Most cost is decided in the design, not in the quotation. Material and temper belong together — the 6061 and 7075 comparison shows how differently two aluminium alloys behave when a part has to be welded, formed or loaded. Edge and corner detail is a manufacturing decision as much as a drawing one, which the fillet and chamfer guide works through. Route matters too. A part designed for a single milling setup is a different part from one that needs three, and a folded cover is not a machined one. The machining overview and the process parameter library give the references we design against, so the drawing arrives with a route already in mind.
From an approved design to a first order
When the design is agreed, the same package supports a sample and then a batch. Metal prototyping is quoted from a single piece so the design can be tested before a quantity decision, and the inspection scope is agreed against the approved revision.
